Bulamu Village History: A Divine Calling in Uganda

In 1998, Joseph Lubega, fueled by his newfound Christian faith, answered a divine calling to uplift the lives of orphans and homeless children in Uganda. Balancing a career as a news anchor at Capital FM, Joseph started with a humble room, providing food, shelter, and education to 26 children from the streets of Kampala.

The turning point came in 2005 when guided by a Dutch acquaintance, Mattheus van der Steen, he acquired a vast piece of land to establish Bulamu Children’s Village. Deviating from conventional approaches, Joseph pioneered a model centered on schools, ensuring a safe and structured environment for the children to thrive.

The Vision: Nurturing Souls, Shaping Futures

Now an ordained pastor in the National Pentecostal Fellowship of Uganda, Joseph Lubega leads Bulamu Children’s Village in fostering a Christ-centered community. Beyond spiritual guidance, the village hosts daily Bible study sessions and a Sunday Worship service, emphasizing the importance of a holistic, values-driven education. The dedicated adult staff members, all born-again Pentecostal Christians, create an environment where hundreds of students can flourish.

Building Success Stories, One Graduate at a Time

Bulamu Children’s Village has evolved into a haven for 168 permanent residents and a hub of education for 723 students during school. Of these, 555 students, with some means of support, actively contribute to their education. The transformative impact extends well beyond the village, with over 600 students confessing salvation and receiving baptism. Graduates have gone on to excel in various professions, from medicine and law to journalism and teaching, a testament to the enduring success of the village’s educational model.

Challenges: Urgent Needs, Limitations, and a Call for Support

Despite the positive impact, challenges persist. With 800 vulnerable children in need, space for accommodation and feeding is stretched thin. The founder’s vision and determination need a helping hand from the global community to overcome these limitations.

The appeal for urgent aid echoes loud and clear – providing sustenance and financial support for teachers is essential to ensuring the well-being and education of these deserving children.
